The College’s extension and community involvement are anchored on the institutionalized extension framework of the University. The initiatives, efforts, and programs are geared towards the achievement of MSU-IIT’s vision and through the fulfillment of its mission. Guided by the University’s core values the different departments of CASS with their respective pool of experts closely work together with the staff, students, administrators, and community partners to provide a strong extension program that contributes to building peaceful and sustainable communities with individuals who are socially responsible, humanistic and culturally sensitive.
The Department through its extension projects and community service programs envisions that: Every student and teacher has access to resources and techniques to build reading and literacy skills that will empower them to fully engage and function in their schools and communities. With this, the Department of English goal is Creating Communities of Readers.
With the desire to create a community of practice, PROJECT LIT empowers high school English teachers in Indonesia and the Philippines by enhancing linguistic skills, improving English language pedagogical practices, and upgrading the use of technology in the classroom. Further, the project aims to assist teachers in improving self-esteem and developing proper attitude towards teaching.
Project LIT is undertaken by the Department of English, College of Arts and Social Sciences, MSU-IIT and the English Education Department, Faculty of Language Education, UMY, Indonesia.
